A Steady Market, A Sharper Edge: What the Latest Data Is Telling Us

August 22, 2025

What’s going on in the market is our most common question, so this week we thought we’d give some numbers to our insight.

Australia’s labour market remains steady rather than roaring. In July 2025 the unemployment rate dipped to 4.2%. Queensland is tracking slightly better than the national picture with unemployment sitting at 4.1%. Full-time roles grew while part-time eased, which tells me employers are still hiring for impact, not headcount.

Meanwhile, online job ads are basically flat month-on-month and lower than this time last year. Translation: competition is real, especially for the roles everyone wants.

What this means for you:

  • Brisbane marketers — Expect tighter briefs and more scrutiny on impact. Stand out by demonstrating commercial outcomes. Have the ability to ship content fast without heavy agency support. Portfolio pieces that tie activity to revenue or LTV will cut through.
  • Hiring managers — Speed and clarity win. Keep scopes sharp, interview processes to two stages where possible and calibrate salaries early to avoid stalls. Flexibility is still a differentiator even in a cooler market.
  • Everyone — Choose roles that stretch your capability stack; brand names follow when you can prove impact.
